DCH Celebrates Successful Heart & Lung Health Run/Walk

Fall Fest Saturday was an absolutely perfect day for a walk—70 degrees, little humidity, not a cloud in the sky.  Many people took advantage of the morning to be outside, including the 200-plus walkers who participated in the Dearborn County Hospital Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department’s eighth annual 5K Heart & Lung Health Run/Walk.

The 3.1 mile (5 kilometer) run/walk on Dearborn Trails in Lawrenceburg is held annually the last weekend of September in conjunction with Lawrenceburg’s Fall Fest.  Walkers and runners from throughout the Tri-State, ranging from 4 to 90 years of age, took part in the event.  Participants in the run/walk also included former patients who are graduates of the DCH Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department programs.

“I am extremely proud of our former patients who took part in the event and walked all or part of the course,” noted Angie Johnson, RN, BSN, DCH Electrocardiology Testing/Rehabilitation Coordinator and Run/Walk Director.  “In addition, I want to thank all of our runners and walkers, many of whom return year after year.  We greatly appreciate their show of support for our cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.

“DCH’s Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department is comprised of an outstanding team of professionals who are dedicated to seeing that our patients rehabilitate successfully, as well as providing education about maintaining good heart and lung health,” she continued.  “This event is just one example of our staff’s commitment to supporting our patients and raising awareness of heart and lung health issues.”

Leading off the walk were Mayor Kelly Mollaun of Lawrenceburg; Mayor Alan Weiss of Greendale; Carl Petty, Member of the DCH Board of Trustees; Michael Schwebler, DCH President/CEO; Tom Fuller, DCH Vice President of Operations & Physician Enterprise;          Dr. Radu Zidarescu, DCH Physician Partners (DCHPP) Pulmonologist/Critical Care Medicine and Medical Director of the DCH Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program; and Dr. Carol Montjoy, DCHPP Pulmonologist/Critical Care Medicine.

“We are grateful for the support provided to us by the Lawrenceburg Fall Fest Committee, the City of Lawrenceburg, the Lawrenceburg Conservancy District and Ivy Tech Community College and its nursing students,” added Ms. Johnson.

The following businesses or organizations provided supplies, services or door prizes for the walk: American Legion Post 292; Arby’s Restaurants; Colleen and Daniel Aug; Aurora Recreational Community Center; Blue Willow House; The Bright Beacon; Cardinal Office Products; Eva Carr; Charlotte’s Flowers & Antiques; the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis; the Creation Museum; Dearborn County Convention & Visitors’ Bureau; Dearborn County Hospital Federal Credit Union; Dearborn County Hospital Human Resources, Laboratory and Pharmacy Departments; Dearborn Savings Bank; Frisch’s; Dunkin’ Donuts; Gardens Alive!; the City of Greendale; Greendale Cinema; Greene Respiratory Services; Haag Ford Sales, Inc.; Harrison Premier Fitness; Joan Hickman; Robin and Joan Hochstrasser; Home Furniture; Indiana Pacers; Indianapolis Colts; Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc., Pi Chapter; Kelsey Chevrolet; KFC; the Kroger Company; George Lansing; Laudick Trucking, Inc.; LifeCenter Organ Donor Network; McCabe’s Greenhouse & Floral; McDonald’s; Newport Aquarium; Orscheln Farm & Home Supply; Oyler Family Dentistry; Panama Pete’s Tanning Spa; Ashok Penmetsa, M.D.; Personally Yours Gift Shop; Rising Star Casino Resort; Rullman Hunger Funeral Home; Sam’s Club; Peter Schwebach; John F.
