SPORTS SYMPOSIUM ATTRACTS CLOSE TO 200 PEE WEE FOOTBALL PLAYERS
The annual Southeastern Indiana Sports
Symposium sponsored by Dearborn County Hospital Physical Therapy &
Sports Medicine, Aurora Physical Therapy and Swanson Orthopaedic
Surgery and Sports Medicine took place recently at the Southeastern
Indiana Youth Football League (SIYFL) fields in Aurora. More than
190 young players participated in the event, which was held in
conjunction with this year’s South Dearborn Pee Wee Football Camp.
Working with the youth at the symposium were
trainers from Tekulve Acceleration Training in Cincinnati and
coaches from Miami University and South Dearborn High School
football teams. Participants were divided into groups by age. Each
group rotated through three 45 minute sessions. Players worked on
plyometrics (jumping), agility and running with the Tekulve
trainers; receiving skills with the Miami University coaches; and
the running of offensive plays and other football drills with the
coaches from South Dearborn High School.
“This event was South Dearborn Pee Wee
Football’s kickoff for its season,” explained Ed Brush, M.S.P.T./A.T.C.,
DCH Physical Therapy Director. “It’s the first time that our
symposium has focused on youth football and I’m pleased at how well
it turned out.”
Each participant received a souvenir football
and a rally towel donated by the hospital’s Physical Therapy
Department, Aurora Physical Therapy and Dr. Jim Swanson, Board
Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. In addition, a cookout was held at
the conclusion of the camp and the Aurora Fire Department came by
with its pumper to spray water and cool off everyone after lunch.
Assisting with the football camp were Mr.
Brush; Ben Huber, M.P.T., DCH Physical Therapist;
Rick Watson, P.T.A./A.T.C., DCH Physical Therapy
Assistant; and Jared Wilburn, M.P.T., DCH Physical Therapist.
Dearborn County Hospital has sponsored a free Sports Symposium for
the past 12 consecutive years.
“I want to thank Dearborn County Hospital
Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, Aurora Physical Therapy and Dr.
Jim Swanson for their efforts in sponsoring this football clinic,”
added Arlis Boggs, President of South Dearborn Pee Wee Football.
“Even though it was a hot day, I know our Pee Wee players gained a
great deal from working with these professional trainers and
coaches.”
