BASKETBALL TOURNEY
CELEBRATES ITS 10TH YEAR
The River Town Classic Basketball Tournament
returns in January for its 10th consecutive year. Each
winter since 2001, four boys and four girls high school teams have
competed in the tournament, sponsored by the Dearborn County
Hospital Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Department and Swanson
Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine.
Teams returning for the 2010 tournament are the
Lawrenceburg Tigers, Rising Sun Shiners, South Dearborn Knights and
Switzerland County Pacers. The tournament takes place on Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, January 6 through 9, at
South Dearborn High School in Aurora.
“The participating schools are very happy that
we’ve been able to make this an annual January event,” stated Foster
Harris, South Dearborn High School Athletic Director and the
tournament’s director. “On behalf of South Dearborn High School, I
am honored that we’ve hosted this event for 10 years running.”
“I’ve attended this event every year and have
seen some great hoops played,” stated Rick Watson, P.T.A./A.T.C.,
DCH Physical Therapy Assistant. “We have many talented players in
the region and the games are a great opportunity to showcase their
abilities.
The schedule is as follows:
On Wednesday, January 6, at 6:00 p.m., the
Switzerland County High School and South Dearborn High School girls
play, followed by the Lawrenceburg and Rising Sun girls game at 7:30
p.m.
The Switzerland County and South Dearborn boys
meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday,
January 7, followed by the Lawrenceburg and
Rising Sun boys teams at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, January 8, the girls consolation
game begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by the boys consolation game at
8:00 p.m. The championship games will be played on Saturday,
January 9, with the girls meeting at 6:00 p.m. and the boys game at
8:00 p.m.
Cheerleading squads representing the four high
schools will compete on Friday. These competitions will take place
between the consolation games.
Varsity basketball players and cheerleaders
will each receive a commemorative T-shirt, donated by Board
Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon Jim Swanson, M.D., and Dearborn County
Hospital Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.
“It’s always a pleasure to co-sponsor this
tournament and provide athletic training services for the games,”
added Ed Brush, M.S.P.T./A.T.C., DCH Director of Physical Therapy
and Sports Medicine.
South Dearborn High School is located at 5770
Highlander Place in Aurora. Single game tickets are $5 each. A
pass for $10 is available for the entire tournament. Tickets and
passes are being sold in advance at the four high schools or they
