The River Town Classic Basketball
Tournament is celebrating its 12th
anniversary. Each year during the first week of
January, boys and girls teams from four local high
schools compete in the tournament held at South Dearborn
High School. The annual event is sponsored by Dearborn
County Hospital Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine and
DCH Orthopaedic Surgeons Doctors Jarvis Earl and Jim
Swanson.
Teams from Lawrenceburg, Rising
Sun, South Dearborn and Switzerland County High Schools
will take part in the tournament which is scheduled for
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings,
January 4, 5, 6 and 7. Between the games on Friday there
will also be a cheerleading competition.
“This is my first year as Athletic
Director at South Dearborn and I am looking forward to
the River Town Classic,” stated Brad Fentress. “From
what I’ve seen of the teams so far this season, the
tournament should be very competitive. I’m expecting a
great turnout all four nights.”
“The River Town Classic has always
been exciting. I hope it continues for many more
years,” added Rick Watson, P.T.A./A.T.C., DCH Physical
Therapy Assistant.
The schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, January 4, the
Rising Sun Shiners and South Dearborn Knights girls
teams play at 6:00 p.m., followed by the
Lawrenceburg Tigers and Switzerland County Pacers
girls teams at 7:30 p.m.
- Thursday, January 5, the boys
teams from South Dearborn and Rising Sun meet at
6:00 p.m., followed by the Tigers and Pacers boys
teams at 7:30 p.m. Judges will be watching the
cheerleading squads’ performances during the games.
- Friday, January 6, there will
be two consolation games: the girls teams at 6:00
p.m. and the boys at 8:00 p.m. Between the games,
the four schools’ cheerleading squads will compete
against each other, with the winners and runners-up
to be announced during half-time of the boys game.
- Saturday, January 7, the girls
championship game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
followed by the boys championship game at 8:00 p.m.
The 2002 All-Tourney basketball team will be
recognized that evening.
South Dearborn High School is
located at 5770 Highlander Place, off of State Route 350
in Aurora. Single game tickets are $5 each. A pass for
$10 is available for the entire tournament. Tickets
and passes are being sold in advance at the four high
schools or they can be purchased at the gate. For more
