PATIENCE, KINDNESS,
GENEROSITY ALL ATTRIBUTES OF DCH AUXILIANS
Averaging 26,000 hours of volunteer service
annually, the Dearborn County Hospital Auxiliary assists in numerous
locations throughout the hospital. Most noticeable are the
volunteers who assist the public as messengers or who staff the
Information Desk, Snack Bar and Gift Shop.
Less visible to the public are the Auxilians
who volunteer in the Sewing Room or in hospital departments such as
Outpatient Services, Rehabilitation Services, Home Health & Hospice,
Health Information Management and Community Relations.
The Auxiliary is also well known for its many
significant donations of money and equipment to the hospital. In
2009, the Auxiliary contributed $100,000 to assist with the
hospital’s Screening Breast MRI Clinical Trial, the first and only
clinical study of its kind in the United States. In addition to
this amount, the Auxiliary made a one time $25,000 donation, along
with its annual $5,000 donation, to the DCH Foundation’s scholarship
and grant/loan programs.
The Auxiliary also financially sponsors a
smoking cessation class held at the hospital. To date, the
Auxiliary has contributed $6,500 to this important endeavor.
During its 50-plus year history, the DCH
Auxiliary’s gifts to the hospital have totaled more than $1.71
million. Much of it was earned through the organization’s work in
the Snack Bar and Gift Shop. Some of the purchases made through the
Auxiliary’s generosity include:
-
2008—42 flat screen televisions for the new
patient tower rooms at $29,000
-
2007—Siemens 3000 Mammomat mammography unit
for $147,000
-
2006—Flagpole and signage for the
hospital’s new front entrance at $25,000
-
2003—R2 ImageChecker CheckMate
System for mammography at $166,000
-
2001—Millennium VG Hawkeye Functional
Anatomic Mapping Unit for the hospital’s CoDe/PET scanner at
$250,000
-
1998—DEXA scanner used to measure bone
density for $109,000.
