The University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of
Pharmacy recognized two of its distinguished graduates
during its recent Alumni Weekend. One of the two
honored was Kevin Burns, PharmD, Director of Pharmacy
Services at Dearborn County Hospital. Dr. Burns was
honored with the Arthur C. Glasser Distinguished Alumni
Award.
Presented by Assistant Dean Andrea Wall, the award was
given to Dr. Burns in recognition of his accomplishments
and contributions to the profession of pharmacy. The
award was named in honor of Arthur C. Glasser who was
the second Dean of the University of Cincinnati College
of Pharmacy, serving in that position from 1970 to 1984.
Connie Jung, PhD, the second honoree, was presented with
the Robert DeSalvo Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Jung
is the Acting Associate Director for Policy and
Communications for the United States Food and Drug
Administration.
Prior to the awards ceremony and recognition banquet,
Dr. Burns gave two lectures at the College. “Pharmacy
Careers and Practice Development” was presented before
the Doctor of Pharmacy Students and “Clinical Pharmacy
Services in an Uncertain Economy” was his topic in
addressing the Masters of Pharmacy Administration
Students and the College of Pharmacy faculty.
Dr. Burns has been the Director of Pharmacy Services at
Dearborn County Hospital since joining the hospital
management staff in 1990. He received his undergraduate
degree and completed post-graduate work at the
University of Cincinnati before earning his Doctor of
Pharmacy Degree from the Medical College of Virginia at
Virginia Commonwealth University.
In addition, Dr. Burns completed an American Society of
Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Antithrombotic
Pharmacotherapy Fellowship at Duke University Medical
Center and is a graduate of the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership
Institute at the Boston University School of Management.
