DEARBORN COUNTY
HOSPITAL AUXILIARY ENJOYS COUNTY FAIR THEMED PICNIC
More than 80 members of the Dearborn County
Hospital Auxiliary enjoyed a summer picnic this week at the
Greendale Cabin. The event, sponsored by Dearborn County Hospital,
is held annually as a thank you to their volunteers.
This year’s theme was “An Old Fashioned
County Fair,” and many of the volunteers came dressed appropriately
in blue jeans or overalls and straw hats. In addition, the day was
filled with great food, much fun and a lot of laughter.
Volunteers took part in a variety of games
and contests, the most memorable being a cream pie eating contest
(no hands allowed), which resulted in a four way tie. Other contests
and their winners included: best straw hat, women—Shirley Adams;
best country attire, women—Marita Cizek, first, and Marge Waldon,
second; and best country attire, men—Cliff Grubbs. Donna Thies came
closest to correctly guessing the number of peanuts in a Mason jar,
while Sandy Ray correctly guessed the number of peppermints in an
antique canning jar.
Prior to the buffet dinner, Bill Dailey, DCH
Director of Security, gave a presentation to the Auxilians on
safety. He provided information on how to remain safe in public as
well as at home. Also he provided information on identifying
counterfeit currency.
A highlight of the evening took place when
DCH Auxiliary President Betty Fulton presented a $40,000 Auxiliary
check to DCH Executive Director Peter V. Resnick for the hospital’s
high school internship program. The amount will go towards the
college tuition of student interns as they pursue associate degrees
in the field of health care. To date, the Auxiliary has donated more
than $1.75 million to Dearborn County Hospital and its related
programs.
The Dearborn
County Hospital Auxiliary is comprised of approximately 125 active
volunteers. Auxilians serve the hospital by volunteering in the
following areas: Gift Shop, Health Information Management, Hospice,
Information Desk, Lifeline, Outpatient Services, Patient
Registration, Rehabilitation Services, Sewing Room, Snack Bar and
Community Relations and as Messengers.
