DR. SHANNON DAVIS JOINS DEARBORN COUNTY SURGERY
A new
General Surgeon, Dr. Shannon Davis, has joined the practice of
Dearborn County Surgery in Lawrenceburg.
“We
believe that Dr. Davis will become an integral part of our surgical
practice,” stated Dr. Michael McAndrew, who along with his brother,
Dr. Mark McAndrew, comprise Dearborn County Surgery. “Her
credentials are excellent and we believe that she possesses the
skill sets necessary to enhance our practice. Not only is she
competent as a Surgeon but she has the ability to relate to her
patients and understand their concerns.”
Dr. Davis
recently finished her Residency in General Surgery at Henry Ford
Macomb Hospital in the Detroit suburb of Clinton Township, where she
had been Chief Resident since 2006. Prior to her residency, she
completed an internship at St. Joseph Medical Center West, also in
Clinton Township. She earned her medical degree from the Pikeville
College School of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville and her
undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Dr. Davis is a native of Fort Thomas and graduated from Highlands
High School.
“It’s terrific to be back in the Tri-state. Now that I have settled
in my new home, I’m really excited about starting my practice,”
revealed Dr. Davis. “Doctors Mike and Mark McAndrew are well
respected Surgeons and it is a privilege to join them at Dearborn
County Surgery.
“While I
treat both men and women, as the only woman General Surgeon in the
practice, I anticipate seeing a large number of female patients. In
many instances, I think
it’s easier for a female patient to have a woman Surgeon,” she
added. “This is especially true for procedures such as the removal
of a breast lesion or a mastectomy. Not only is the patient dealing
with the physical aspects of the surgery and possibly a change in
appearance, but also the many emotional issues related to a
diagnosis or potential diagnosis of cancer. It’s in these instances
that I feel it is beneficial for a patient to have a more
comfortable, one on one relationship with her physician…so the
patient views the surgery as a team approach: herself and her
Surgeon.
“Regardless of the sex of the patient or type of procedure, I give
them my full attention. I want to establish a good
patient/physician relationship and not be seen as a doctor who just
stops in for a minute and then is gone,” elaborated Dr. Davis. “To
me it’s important that I take the time to make sure the patient
understands the reason for the procedure and what they can expect
during surgery and post-operatively. Patients benefit from their
Surgeon working with nursing and social services in a
multidisciplinary manner to keep them informed and to address any
concerns, needs or expectations they may have in regard to their
procedure or ongoing care.”
