DCH FOUNDATION OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANT/LOANS FOR THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR

The Dearborn County Hospital Foundation will continue to offer both its High School Senior Scholarship Program and its Health Care Student Grant/Loan Program for the 2008-2009 school year.  In 2007, the Dearborn County Hospital Foundation and Dearborn County Hospital presented 30 scholarships and grant/loans.

The DCH Foundation High School Senior Scholarship Program awards $500 scholarships to area high school seniors who will be pursuing health care careers after graduation.

Now in its eighth year, the DCH Foundation’s Health Care Student Grant/Loan Program is open to high school seniors, high school graduates or GED recipients of any age and current college students who are enrolled in specific health care Associate Degree programs for the 2008-2009 school year.

High School Senior Scholarship Program

The Dearborn County Hospital Foundation is now accepting applications for its High School Senior Scholarship Program for the 2008-2009 school year.  Current high school seniors who reside in and/or who will graduate from a high school in one of the following counties may apply:  Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley, Switzerland and Franklin.

To be eligible, high school seniors must already be accepted to accredited colleges or universities with plans to pursue health care majors.  Scholarships are for $500 and are for one year only.  They are not repayable nor are they renewable for future years of study.  Scholarships are awarded based on the projected needs of the hospital, scholastic performance, extracurricular activities and individual and/or family financial need.

High school seniors should check with their school counselors or the DCH Community Relations Department at (812) 537-8190 or (800) 676-5572, ext. 8190, for applications and further information.  Applications are also available on the DCH website at www.dch.org.

All scholarship applications must be completed in full and postmarked or returned to the Community Relations Department of Dearborn County Hospital, 600 Wilson Creek Road, Lawrenceburg, Indiana 47025, prior to or on Thursday, April 17, to be eligible for consideration.

Health Care Student Grant/Loan Program

The Dearborn County Hospital Foundation Health Care Student Grant/Loan Program provides grant/loans to students enrolled in designated college programs for specific health care careers.  Grant/loans cover tuition and fees up to $12,000 for Associate Degree programs.  These grant/loans are not limited to recent high school graduates or high school seniors.  High school graduates or GED recipients of any age and current college students are eligible, subject to specific requirements.

Applications are now available for grant/loans for programs leading to Associate Degrees in these high demand areas:  Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Technology, Nursing (R.N.), Physical Therapist Assistant and Respiratory Therapy.

Eligibility requirements for the program include:

A student must be accepted into a local Associate Degree program for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant or Respiratory Therapy at a college or university that is approved by the grant/loan program.  Applicants must be accepted by both the college and the specific clinical program or technical sequence.

Selected recipients must remain in good standing with their program.  Tuition will be provided on a term by term basis when good standing is verified.  Recipients must agree to work full time in their selected field at DCH for at least two years after graduation and completion of licensure/registration requirements.  Failure to do so will result in the loan amount being repayable to DCH.

The deadline for grant/loan applications for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Technology and Respiratory Therapy is Wednesday, April 30, followed by the deadline for Nursing (R.N.) and Physical Therapist Assistant applications on Monday, June 30.
