The Better Breathers Club begins its 2008 meeting series on
Thursday, April 17, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Ohio Room of
Dearborn County Hospital. Adults who suffer from asthma,
chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, fibrosis or other
respiratory illnesses are welcome. Guests may bring a family
member or friend.
April’s program will feature guest speaker Steven Gunderson,
M.D., a physician with more than 20 years of experience in the
DCH Emergency Department. Dr. Gunderson will present an
overview of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and
will provide information related to asthma, emphysema,
bronchitis and other chronic lung diseases. In addition, Dr.
Gunderson will discuss what to do in the event of a respiratory
emergency.
The Better Breathers Club, co-sponsored by DCH and the American
Lung Association of Indiana, is a local chapter of the national
organization. Dianne Williams, R.R.T., DCH Pulmonary
Rehabilitation Therapist, coordinates the group at Dearborn
County Hospital.
“Better Breathers is available to anyone with lung conditions,”
explained Mrs. Williams. “The club is designed to provide
motivation and encouragement for individuals to do everything
they can to keep their lives full and satisfying. Meetings
include speakers, video presentations and discussions.
Afterward, individuals may mingle and socialize over
refreshments. As part of our 2008 kickoff, we will also be
drawing names for door prizes at the end of the program.”
Better Breathers is free and open to the public. Prior
registration is not required but is appreciated. To register,
please call the DCH Education Department at (812) 537-8431 or
(800) 676-5572, ext. 8431.
