Dearborn County Hospital and Ivy Tech Community
College-Riverfront Campus are introducing the Simulation
Center for Medical Education at a community open house
on Thursday, December 8, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. The
lab is located on the fifth floor of Ivy Tech Community
College-Riverfront Campus at 50 Walnut Street in
Lawrenceburg.
The Ivy
Tech Community College-Riverfront Campus nursing program
and Dearborn County Hospital began utilizing simulation
in April 2011 as a teaching and learning strategy for
patient-centered care at all levels of medical
education.
“The
Simulation Center for Medical Education’s mission is to
provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to
utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment as they
apply their knowledge and skills to real-life scenarios
in a simulated, nonthreatening environment,” stated
Shelly Eisert, MSN, MHA, RN, CNE, Director of the
Simulation Center, Ivy Tech Community College-Riverfront
Campus.
“Dearborn County Hospital is currently using the center
for specialty courses such as Neonatal Resuscitation and
Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Both courses have
incorporated simulation into their curriculums to
provide more challenging education for medical and
nursing professionals,” stated Tina Butt, RN, BSN, EMTI-PI,
EMS/ECC Coordinator for Dearborn County Hospital.
“DCH
also is using the center for advanced education classes
of Emergency Medical Services,” Mrs. Butt added. “We
plan to expand use of the center in 2012 for additional
opportunities.”
