It’s pumpkin decorating contest time again in the
Dearborn County Hospital Physical Therapy Department.
The staff is already making preparations for the annual
contest, which will celebrate its 10th
anniversary this year.
The
free contest takes place each autumn during an open
house in the hospital’s Physical Therapy Department.
Patients, former patients and the general public are
welcome to enter pumpkins in the contest.
Entries will be accepted from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on
Monday, October 17; 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
October 18; and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
October 19. Judging will be at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Prizes will be awarded to the best pumpkin in each of
three divisions: second grade and younger; third
through sixth grade; and seventh grade through adult.
Thousands of pumpkins have been entered in the contest
since its inception in 2002. The contest is in
conjunction with National Physical Therapy Month and
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, both of which
occur in October. DCH will make a $10 donation for each
entry this year to the Cincinnati Affiliate of Susan G.
Komen for the Cure.
This year’s open house will be held on Wednesday,
October 19, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. During the open
house, visitors will be able to meet with members of the
DCH Physical Therapy and Breast Care Center staffs, as
well as representatives from Susan G. Komen for the Cure
and the American Cancer Society. All children who stop
by will receive a goody bag.
“We
are always amazed at the number of pumpkins entered and
the creativity and complexity of the designs,” said Ed
Brush, MSPT/ATC, DCH Physical Therapy Director. “It’s
exciting to see the new creations each year.”
Following the contest, pumpkins may be picked up from
5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday or from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00
p.m. on Thursday. Unclaimed pumpkins will be donated to
area nursing or group homes.
