SUBACUTE UNIT
The Subacute Unit of Dearborn County
Hospital, designed for short term stays, offers rehabilitative
therapy and clinically complex nursing services.
Patients, referred to as residents, may
stay in the Subacute Unit from several days to several weeks,
depending on their needs. Registered Nurses, Licensed
Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants provide nursing
care for the residents, while Occupational Therapists, Speech
Pathologists, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants
offer rehabilitation services as needed.
The
Unit bridges the gap between an acute hospital stay and
going home and allows individuals to rehab close to home in a comfortable family oriented environment.
Many of the residents who utilize the
Unit are orthopaedic patients who have undergone knee or hip
replacements. Cerebrovascular accident (stroke) patients,
persons with complications from pneumonia, car accident victims
and individuals with complex medical conditions also utilize the
Subacute facility.
The Physical, Occupational and Speech
Therapy Departments provide one on one services for residents.
The Subacute has its own gymnasium equipment including parallel
bars, simulated stair steps and exercise equipment such as ankle
and arm weights and Swiss balls.
The Subacute Unit has 12 private
resident rooms each with a flat screen television with cable,
radio/cassette player and telephone. The Unit has a TV
with VCR and DVD player available in the Resident Day Room and a
computer with internet access available for residents in the
Dining/Activity Room.
